Change of Venue for Club Champs racing 7 March

8 02 2015

Hi all,

Due to work being undertaken at the Recreation Centre we have had to move this leg of the Club Champs to the Jubilee Pool.

This means we will move the 25m fButterfly, 25 metre Backstroke and the 100m Individual Medley to the final leg on the 28th March.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but ask you to note this on your calendar.

Racing will go ahead in Saturday 14th at the Rec Centre as planned – psych sheets will be posted early this week.

We need your support

3 02 2015

In your mail boxes you would have received a pamphlet from the Franklin Local Board.

What you may not have read is the paragraph on the back page that says

“May of the community aspirations for new or improved facilities – for example a new swimming pool, upgraded and improved sports and recreation facilities- are not funded through the ten years of the Long – term plan. Another way through the ten years of this Long- term plan. Another way funding could be provided for such projects is through a local targeted rate – this is where a community/group agree to pay an additional amount each year towards a specified project.

We would like to get feedback from you on how you feel about this idea – would you consider paying a local targeted rate (commencing in 2016/2017) to provide additional facilities in the Franklin Local Board?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send your feedback to

We desperately need another swimming pool or an upgrade to the exisiting facilities in Pukekohe for all of our swimmers! We have been working long and hard with council to get our pools upgraded, now you can all do your bit!

An awesome team

1 02 2015

A huge thank you to the amazing team of parents who got stuck in and helped set up gazebos in the rain yesterday with no instructions, marshalled kids ready for racing, provided and served food all day long to the hardworking officials, set up tents to keep our own swimmers out of the rain, acted as time keepers and announcers, runners, starters, I.O.T’s and Judge of Stroke. Special thanks to Rebecca Dell for her amazing sining of the National Anthem.

It was really cool to be part of such a great group of people who did everything with a smile on their faces and some good humour! No wonder our swimmers are so successful when they come from such amazing families!

More great results in the ocean and in the pool

29 01 2015

Rebecca Cheyne, Abi Chapman and Simone Cowling all swam in the Oriental Bay Wellington leg of the Ocean Swim Series on Saturday 25th January. This was a 3.3. kilometre swim with the weather in Wellington perfect – not even any wind! Theree were however swarms of jellyfish which was more than a little daunting. The girls all swam in the first wave of the race, which was split into 4 sections, spacing the 661 swimmers into 4 groups, going 1 min apart.

Abi Chapman swam an awesome race, coming  in 3rd Female overall, in a time of 43.26. Picking up her Elite medal at the prize giving.

Simone Cowling also swam a great race, coming in 3rd Female in her age group ( 20 – 24) and 9th female overall in a time of 46.53.

14 year old Rebecca who was a little more daunted by the jellyfish, came in 4th in her age group 15U, and 31st woman overall with a time of 52.03

The girls said it felt weird when they were pulling down jelly fish as they stroked, but were glad they hadn’t seen the “ reported” sting rays in their swim.

Abi goes on to compete in the akaroa swim next month.Screen Shot 2015-01-29 at 5.28.02 pmScreen Shot 2015-01-29 at 5.28.22 pm

Kiana and Abbey Swain competed in the Sunset Beach river swim in the weekend.  Kiana came in 2nd overall and was the first female.  Abbey came in 4th overall and was the 2nd female (Abbey wore flippers – as it was her first time).  Congratulations girls these are amazing results.

Janaye Burns also did exceptionally well collecting 5 golds and 1 silver medal at the Anthony Mosse Classic held in Henderson over the weekend.
