We saw some outstanding racing, some huge Pb’s, a medal tally of 6 gold’s, 4 silvers and 4 bronze medals. The team work was amazing and the support was fantastic. Out thanks to our team managers Karen Dell and Sharron Hughes, along with Michelle Broughton and our referee Sandra Sutcliffe.

Outstanding swimmer of the meet was 14 year old Zac dell who came away with 4 gold’s and a silver medal. Gold in 50/ 100 and 200 backstroke and 50 breast stroke, silver in the 200 breast stroke. He also got 5th in the 50 fly and 9th 200 IM.

Abi Chapman swam an amazing race in the 400 Im, taking gold with a Pb to boot, also gaining gold in the 800 f/s , silver in the 200 Im and bronze in the 400 F/s. she was 4th in the 200 F/s and 9th 50 f/s.

Kiana swain was outstanding in the 200 fly, swimming a 10 second Pb to take out silver by splits, she also took silver in the 100 fly and bronze in the 400 Im, 4th in the 50 fly.

Kevin Qiao took out bronze in the 100 br and 2 4th places by splits in the 50 and 200 br, 10th for the 400 Im.

The girl’s 4x 200 f/s relay also collected a bronze medal. 3 of the girls swam up and age group, which made this an added bonus, as the girls were competing against older swimmers. But their determination and tenacity pulled through. Rebecca, Danika, Summer and Abi were delighted with their placing.

We saw 100 % Pb’s from Kiana Swain and William Hughes.

Rebecca Cheyne had the most finals placing’s with 8 finals and gained the girls 80  points behind top points scorer Abi Chapman 108 points, followed by Kiana with 73 points. Boy’s points went to Zac with 139, Kevin 47 and William 36

Our biggest jump in rankings was a 3 way tie with 11 jumps from, Zac 200 br from 13th to 2nd , William from 19 to 8th in  200 Bk, and  Rebecca in 50 f/s from 24 to 13

Other finalists from the club were

Rebecca Cheyne 8 finals 5th in the 200 f/s, 100 Bk, 200 Bk, 800 f/s, 6th 400 IM and 400 F/s, 7th 50 Bk and 9th 200 Fly.

Danika Ryland Higgins 5 finals 6th 200 f/s, 200 IM and 100 fly 7th 100 f/s and 10th – 50 fly

William Hughes 5 finals – 6th 100 f/s, 7th 50 f/s, 8th  in 200 f/s, 400 f/s and 200 Bk

Olivia Clare –9th 50 fly and 10th 10 fly

Louise Ruiterman – 9th 100 br and 10th 50 breast stroke.

Holley Hogan 7th 200 fly

PSC relays in finals – boys 4 x 100 f/s 10th and boys 4x 200 fs 7th, girls 4x 100 Im relay 6th and girls 4x 100 f/s relay 6th

An impressive results for a small club. Firstly it is a huge achievement to reach the qualifying times for this national meet, to final is fantastic and to place really is the cherry on the top. Our swimmers competed with enthusiasm and determination. We are proud of them all. To train all year round, early mornings and evenings is a huge commitment, but the team see the reward in bieng placed in the top 10 clubs in NZ. It was a huge learning curve for first timers Jovarn, Kiana, Tavarnya and Josh to this level, but they all handled it well.

The team are back in the pool next week training for Short course champs to be held in Albany.
